Fair Price for Fair Use

Fair licenses for people who make things.

One font, one fair price, all features included.

We use fonts too. We have spent years losing creative time to tiny license differences, seat counts, visitor counters, and small print. AP.CX licensing is the fair license we wish every font had.

  • No counters
  • No tracking
  • No subscription trap
  • No complex calculator
  • No per-computer stress
  • No package splitting

Buy the font. Use the font. Keep making.

Install it on the computers you need. Use it in your design tools. Self-host the webfonts. Use it in print, logos, posters, packaging, social media posts, videos, presentations, websites, and client work.

We do not sell small packages. Most AP.CX releases are variable fonts, so the useful thing is the full system: axes, styles, formats, and features together.

The rule stays simple: fair price for fair use.

Variable fonts, full package

One price includes the font system.

When you license a paid AP.CX font, you get the available package for that release. No paying again for a width, a webfont, or a basic OpenType feature.

The paid package includes desktop fonts, web fonts, self-hosting, all available axes and styles in the variable font, OpenType features included in the release, logo, print, social, video, packaging, presentation use, and the available formats for that font.

Try before buying

Trial fonts are for testing the work first.

Download the trial version from a font page before buying. Use it to test display sizes, paragraphs, logos, website mockups, and client presentations.

The trial is intentionally limited. It helps you decide if the font fits; the full licensed package is for production use.

Questions

Common licensing cases.

Can I try the font before buying?

Yes. Use the trial version before buying to test spacing, scale, logos, website mockups, and client or internal presentations. Trial fonts are for testing, not final production.

What is included when I buy a paid font?

The available package for that release: desktop fonts, web fonts, self-hosting, variable axes and styles, OpenType features, and the formats prepared for that font. We do not split paid variable fonts into small packages.

Which license should I choose for normal client work?

Choose Creator. It covers the designer or studio doing normal client work. If the client will install, host, edit with, or keep using the font files directly, the client should hold a license or you should buy it for them.

Can nonprofit organizations use Student?

Yes. Student includes nonprofit organizations and creators working for nonprofits. If a nonprofit project grows into large commercial-scale use, contact us and we will keep it fair.

Do you track visitors, computers, or printed items?

No. There are no counters, tracking scripts, reporting dashboards, subscription traps, or per-computer stress. Choose the tier that honestly fits the scale of the project.

When do I need Scale?

Use Scale when the project needs Creator rights with no limit: high-volume print or web, large brand systems, major campaigns, apps, SaaS, product embedding, broadcast, streaming, or enterprise use.

What happens for OEM use or redistribution?

OEM use and redistribution are separate from fixed-price Scale. They need a custom Scale invoice from $2,000 because the license must describe how the font files are bundled, accessed, or redistributed.

Why are some fonts paid and others open source?

If a font is built on open-source work, we commonly keep it open too. Open font releases such as SquareBot Sans use the SIL Open Font License 1.1. Paid fonts fund the drawing, engineering, testing, documentation, and maintenance that make future releases possible.

What if the price is still too high?

Contact us and explain the context. We can grant the right to use the font when the normal price does not fit the project.

Can AP.CX help with an open-source project?

Contact us if you have an open-source project involving fonts or AP.CX tools. If it fits, we may be happy to participate.

Paid and open-source fonts

Both models matter.

Open-source fonts

If a font is built on another open-source font, we commonly distribute it as an open font too. For open font releases such as SquareBot Sans, the preferred license is the SIL Open Font License 1.1. We believe in open source because sharing tools and source helps others learn.

Paid fonts

Paid fonts support the drawing, engineering, testing, documentation, and maintenance that make future releases possible. Free fonts are useful, but if you want more fonts in the future, paying for fonts matters too.

The idea

We keep Student open and Creator intentionally affordable so designers, art schools, freelancers, small studios, small businesses, and nonprofits can use good type without friction.

If your project grows, succeeds, or reaches large commercial scale, upgrade to a Scale license.

That is the deal. Fair price for fair use.
